First access and roles

Everyone signs in to DogShow with the same kind of account. What separates the office from an exhibitor is not the way you register, it is the administrator right that is granted afterwards.

This chapter covers the three things you do once, at the very beginning: creating the account, having it raised to administrator, and protecting it.

Registering

There is no separate address for managers. Open the address of your DogShow instance and you land on the public page: the shows with open entries on the right, and two buttons in the middle.

  1. Press REGISTRATION.
  2. Type your email address in email.
  3. Press Proceed.
Registration asks only for an email address; the access link arrives there.

The address is the only thing asked for, and there is a reason: DogShow does not send you a password, it sends an access link. Follow it and you finish the registration from there. Use an address you will still be reading in a year — it is the account name, the place every notification goes, and the only way back in if you are locked out.

Once you are in, the page looks like the one an exhibitor sees: home, my dogs and my entries in the top bar, and nothing else. That is correct. At this point your account exists but has no rights beyond entering your own dogs.

Immediately after registering, the account has an exhibitor's menu and nothing more.

Getting administrator rights

Administrator rights are not granted automatically: we activate them. Write to

d.bolognesi@2digit.sm to let us know you have registered. No particular wording is needed, the message only has to tell us the account exists and which address it was registered with.

Wait for our reply, then reload the page. The menu on the left appears, and with it the whole application: shows, exhibitors, judges, dogs, breeders, entries and statistics at the top, then the records that everything else is built on — persons, breeds, classes, organizations, event types, steps — and system at the bottom.

After activation the left-hand menu appears, with the whole application in it.

An administrator can do anything: create shows, change entries, judge, remove data. There is no smaller role in between. Grant the right sparingly, and only to people who work on the shows.

Two-factor authentication

An administrator account is worth protecting, because it can reach every show, every exhibitor and every payment record in the instance. Turn on two-factor authentication as soon as the right is granted, not later.

  1. Press the account icon at the top right.
  2. Choose settings.

  1. Press Enable 2FA by email.
  2. Follow the message that arrives: it carries the code that activates it.

From then on, signing in asks for a code sent to your address as well as the usual credentials. The same page carries a Disable 2FA by email button, greyed out until the protection is on, and the language selector — which changes the language of the interface for you alone, not for everyone else.

If something does not work

The access link never arrives. Check the spam folder first. If it is not there, the address may be mistyped: start the registration again and read it back carefully before pressing Proceed.

The menu on the left is still missing. The right has not been granted yet, or it was granted to a different account than the one you are signed in with. Check which address appears in the account menu, and make sure it is the one you told us about.

You have lost access to the address the account is registered with. Nothing can be recovered from inside the application: the address is the account. Write to

d.bolognesi@2digit.sm from another address, explaining the situation.
