Documents and catalog
Everything printed for a show is produced from the documents tab of the event: the catalog on the left, the working documents on the right. Nothing here can be produced before the breeds are assigned and the entries closed — until then there is no final list of dogs to print.
Composing the catalog
The catalog is not a fixed report. It is a list of catalog elements that you assemble, in the order you want them.
Press the + above the list to add an element. The usual composition runs cover, judges list, breeds list, statistics, the rings list with the details of the dogs, the dogs list with details, and the exhibitors — but the order is yours, and elements you do not want simply stay out.
catalog page size is the paper the catalog is laid out for. Agree it with the printer before generating, not after.
Press generate catalog. When it has run, the file appears in the catalog field with a preview beside it, and the button becomes regenerate catalog.
Regenerate after any change that touches the content — a late entry accepted, a reassignment confirmed. The catalog is a snapshot, not a live view: it stays exactly as it was on the day it was produced, which is right for a document that goes to print, and wrong if you forget to run it again.
Generating the documents
The right-hand panel holds the working documents, the ones that do not go in the catalog but without which the show does not run:
- document for ring breed list — what each ring judges, in order.
- document for dogs results — the results, and a second version laid out for blackboard A0 for print shop, to be posted up on the ground.
- document for possible awards for ring dogs results — the awards each ring can give.
- document for classes per breeds per rings — the classes per breed per ring, the same one that is sent to the judges.
- document for awards for best in show.
- document for statistics entries.
- document for catalog numbers per rings and per event — the catalog numbers, which is how a dog is called in the ring.
- document for dorsals — the numbers the handlers wear.
generate missing documents produces in one press everything that is not there yet, and says how many that is. Use it after closing the entries: it is faster than going down the list, and it does not overwrite what already exists.
Each field also takes an upload, for the case where you produce a document elsewhere and want it filed with the others.
Checking before printing
Before sending anything to the printer, look at what the rings ended up with. The rings tab shows each ring with its judge, the number of breeds and the number of dogs.
Open a ring to see inside it: the breeds with their start times, the matches within a breed, and the dogs of each class with their catalog numbers.
This is the last moment at which a mistake is cheap. A breed in the wrong ring, a judge with twice the dogs of the others, a start time that has the same handler in two rings at once — all of it is visible here, and all of it is expensive once printed.
Printing and distribution
The documents are PDFs: print them or send them as they are.
What is worth preparing on paper, and in more copies than seem necessary: the ring breed list and the classes per breed per ring for each ring folder, the dorsals, and the results sheets in the A0 layout for the board. Tablets run out of battery and networks fail; paper does neither, and a ring with its list on the table keeps working through both.
